Paramount Schedules New STAR TREK Film for June 2023

The Star Trek news just keeps coming this week, as today Paramount Pictures has announced that a new franchise film has been scheduled by the studio for a 2023 release.

While little information past a release date is currently known — we’ve reached out to Paramount Pictures for more details, if available — a newly-dated Star Trek film scheduled for a June 9, 2023 release was revealed by Deadline this afternoon, already lighting the flames of fan discussion for what we might see in once that date rolls around.

It could be a target date for one of a number of Star Trek film projects which have been bouncing around over the last few years.

While the most recent one is the Kalinda Vazquez project announced in March, it could also be the 2016-announced Chris Pine-helmed Star Trek 4 that fell apart due to financial negotiations, the never-really-embraced-by-fans Quentin Tarantino take that was rumored to be based upon “A Piece of the Action,” or Fargo and Legion writer Noah Hawley’s own take on a new film that ran out of gas last year.

UPDATE: Our friends over at io9.com report that this is actually another, different project; “a separate J.J. Abrams-produced Trek film but all detail beyond that remains top secret.”

Phew.

For today, all we’ve got is a date on the calendar, one that means a new Star Trek film project would have to start going in front of cameras very, very soon — that is, if the studio has finally cracked the code on the elusive fourteenth Star Trek film this time… for real.
