Hot on the heels of yesterday’s “Sulu” promo, three more characters from this summer’s STAR TREK BEYOND land their own feature clips – Jaylah, Kirk, and the good doctor McCoy.

Paramount’s really going all out, cranking out a wild six new videos today, the Friday before a holiday weekend. Next week we’re sure to see even more of these character promos, and more TV spots showcasing new images from STAR TREK BEYOND.
A new clip from STAR TREK BEYOND arrives from Paramount today, featuring Spock and Uhura facing what appears to be a bump in the road on their romantic journey.
This forty-second excerpt from the film’s time spent at Starbase Yorktown is the first major release of in-film footage outside of the trailer and TV spot category.
Zoe Saldana, the actress behind Uhura, weighed in on the pair’s relationship in an interview back in May:
Everybody’s relationship, all of their dynamics are tested. Spock and Uhura are going to be tested as well. To what extent? I don’t know. But I mean they made it in the show. They were old in the show. [laughs]
What more can I say without giving it away? They are in each other’s lives in a very passionate way. So you will see that. To what extent? I don’t know. But I think Spock is absolutely in love with Uhura. I think he’s crazy about her. And if Uhura is done with him, it’s going to kill him. [laughs]
I’m joking. But he really loves me more than I do him.
Her comments seem to be in line with this new clip, which seems to be set near the opening of STAR TREK BEYOND‘s story.
This week keeps the STAR TREK BEYOND train moving along, two more new TV spots have landed, showcasing a bit more of Starbase Yorktown, the crew’s adventure on the USS Franklin, and some new surprises from throughout the film.
In the newest spot, entitled “Fly,” we see Sulu at the helm of the Franklin escaping Altamid’s atmosphere, the Enterprise inside Starbase Yorktown… and in a surprise, Dr. McCoy seemingly piloting a Swarm ship.

This morning’s release, “Big Attack,” we get another view at Krall’s attack on the Enterprise, a nice look at the Yorktown atmospheric bubble, and Jim Kirk in his on-base Starfleet jumpsuit.
John Cho’s Hikaru Sulu gets the spotlight in this brief new promo released by Paramount this week, with some new footage from STAR TREK BEYOND showing the lieutenant’s confidence in a difficult situation.
Hopefully we’ll see some more fun promos like this in the coming days.
The new music video for Rihanna’s “Sledgehammer” single, written by Sia, arrived this morning, featuring the singer surrounded by STAR TREK BEYOND imagery.
Directed by Floria Sigismondi, this is the first music video to be filmed completed with IMAX cameras – and will hopefully be included on the inevitable Blu-ray release.
It seems that this track is truly being integrated into the BEYOND marketing campaign much more than just its inclusion in this week’s new trailer – clearly a lot of money went into this.
How this song will be used in STAR TREK BEYOND itself has yet to be announced.
First announced almost a year ago, the first printings of 2016’s Star Trek Encyclopedia revival have made their way off the presses.
Revealed yesterday on Twitter by John Van Citters, VP of Product Developent at CBS Consumer Products, the new hardcover two-volume Encyclopedia stands tall in the well-designed slipcase which accompanies the text.

Continuing this year’s trend of STAR TREK BEYOND tie-in commercials, Quicken Loans’ “Rocket Mortgage” program released a series of Vulcan-themed promotional ads Wednesday, with a pair of pointed-eared homebuyers in the market for a new place to live.
In addition to their ad entitled “How To,” embedded above, a second commercial also arrived (“Doors”) featuring the Vulcan officer and his wife.
Like HP Enterprise’s commercial released a few weeks ago, this is likely not going to be the last tie-in ads cross-promoting STAR TREK BEYOND – stay tuned for more as they arrive!
Some new background details on Jaylah, the warrior woman portrayed by Sofia Boutella in this summer’s STAR TREK BEYOND, have been revealed by Empire Magazine in their August issue, expanding our knowledge of this fierce fighter – plus: learn the name of the movie’s new planet!
In an interview with the actress, Empire sketches out some history on Jaylah, that she’s grew up stranded on Altamid – the planet seen in the BEYOND trailers – and that she uses some technological trickery to keep an advantage over her enemies.
The crew is separated into unusual pairings: Spock with Bones; Kirk with Chekov; Sulu with Uhura; and Scotty with Jaylah, who was stranded on Krall’s deadly planet as a child, after an earlier attack by the villain.
[Footage screened for Empire introduces] Jaylah on the planet Altamid, where a number of the Enterprise crew have landed after the ship’s demise. As Scotty is about to be offed by unfriendly aliens, Jaylah leaps to his rescue.
She speaks in a broken English that [Simon] Pegg wrote for Boutella’s accent, and fights with balletic grace, at one point alongside two holographic projects of herself.
It’s nice to finally put a name to the planet – instead of having to keep calling it “the planet”! – and the detail about holographic projections lines up with the tactic we see Kirk take while on the move:

By our count, STAR TREK BEYOND is up to fourteen different movie poster designs with just a few weeks left to go before the film arrives – but today, we’ve got one more poster to add to the mix!
This new poster featuring Sofia Boutella’s Jaylah was released through the official @StarTrekMovie Twitter account this afternoon, showcasing the alien warrior in solid command – well, at least, the command chair of the USS Franklin, a play on the final shot of the second theatrical trailer.
