For the third year in a row, Paramount+ is set to celebrate September 8 as Star Trek Day with a live event showcasing the five ongoing television shows, plus a whole lot more.
Hosted by Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Tawny Newsome (Mariner) and Paul F. Tompkins (Dr. Migleemo), the two-hour live event will begin at 3PM ET / 12 PM PT on Thursday, September 8, broadcast from the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Red carpet interviews with Star Trek cast and crew will also be helmed by Star Trek: Discovery’s Mary Chieffo (L’Rell) and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jackie Cox.
This year’s Star Trek Day event “will feature back-to-back, in-person conversations with cast members from the Star Trek universe, along with exciting announcements and reveals throughout,” and is set to include “a few surprises” yet to be revealed.
The featured events highlighting the current Paramount+ Trek productions include:
- Star Trek: Picard — Interviews with Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) and Michelle Hurd (Raffi Musiker)
- Star Trek: Lower Decks — Interviews with Tawny Newsome (Mariner), Noël Wells (Tendi), and Dawnn Lewis (Freeman)
- Star Trek: Prodigy — Interviews with Brett Gray (Dal R’El) and Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway)
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — Interviews with Rebecca Romijn (Una), Christina Chong (La’an), Jess Bush (Chapel), Celia Rose Gooding (Uhura), Melissa Navia (Ortegas), and Babs Olusanmokun (M’Benga)
- Star Trek: Discovery — A behind-the-scenes tour of the Discovery sets hosted by Wilson Cruz (Culber), with appearances by Sonequa Martin-Green (Burnham) and other cast as production on Season 5 continues in Toronto
Along with the five highlighted presentations, the event will also include:
- Nichelle Nichols Tribute — Featuring a special video to honor the impact and influence of Nichelle Nichols
- “Put On Your Best Face” — A lucky fan will be transformed into a Star Trek alien by a series make-up artist.
- Star Trek Cosplay Runway — Hosted by Jackie Cox, fans will strut the runway in their finest Star Trek cosplay
- Special Musical Guest — Reggie Watts from The Late Late Show with James Corden
- Stand-Up Comedy with Brian Posehn
The Star Trek United Gives charity campaign will return for another round of fundraising; for every person who tweets the hashtag #StarTrekUnitedGives on September 8, $1 will be donated and divided equally by Paramount to charities that support organizations who do the real-world work of championing diversity, equity and innovation, in honor of the late Nichelle Nichols.
Finally, select cities around the world will host pop-up Star Trek augmented reality “Delta Portals,” allowing fans to use their mobile devices to beam into Star Trek environments.
Star Trek Day will also be celebrated with a one-of-a-kind opportunity for fans around the world with the debut of in-person “Star Trek” Augmented Reality Delta Portals. The Delta Portals will be set up for a limited time in select cities internationally, from Wednesday, Sept. 7 to Thursday, Sept 8.
Each location will have three “Star Trek” Deltas, each seven feet tall and featuring QR codes that, when scanned on Instagram, transform the objects into mixed-reality portals that bring the user into the world of “Star Trek.”
