STAR TREK UNIVERSE Returns to San Diego Comic Con, Panels for PRODIGY and LOWER DECKS Set for July 23

For the second year in a row, San Diego Comic Con has turned into an online-only event — and the Star Trek Universe is once again part of the streaming show, as Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy will each have panels to preview their upcoming seasons!

Announced this week ahead of the July 23 event, the cast and creative teams behind Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy will be participating in online panels to preview their second and first seasons, respectively, before they debut on Paramount+ this year; each panel will be moderated by Lower Decks star Jerry O’Connell (Ransom).

The very first Star Trek: Prodigy panel will give fans their first insights on the upcoming animated series from the show’s recently-announced cast, as returning Trek star Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) will be joined by Brett Gray (Dal), Ella Purnell (Gwyn), Angus Imrie (Zero), Rylee Alazraqui (Rok-Tahk), Dee Bradley Baker (Murf), and Jason Mantzoukas (Jankom Pog) to discuss the show.

Also participating in the Prodigy panel are series executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman, along with director Ben Hibon — and we’d be very surprised if we don’t some substantial news from this panel, such as our first footage from the animated series, or perhaps even a premiere date for Star Trek: Prodigy.

The Star Trek: Lower Decks panel will feature series creator/showrunner Mike McMahan, joined by series leads Tawny Newsome (Mariner), Jack Quaid (Boimler), and Eugene Cordero (Rutherford) to preview the second season, set to arrive on August 12.

With the debut of Lower Decks Season 2 scheduled just two weeks after the SDCC@Home event, it’s likely we’ll get more footage from the upcoming new episodes as part of this discussion as well.

The Star Trek Universe animation panels will begin at 10 AM PT (1PM ET) on Friday, July 23, and be available for fans worldwide to watch on the San Diego Comic Con’s YouTube channel.

Of course, we’ll bring you all the news that arrives from these Star Trek discussions here at TrekCore, so keep your sensors locked on our site and social media feeds for all the latest!
