After this week’s announcement that the first four Star Trek films are getting hot new 4K remasters, coming to fans in September, fans in the United States will get their first chance to see the outcome of these efforts as Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home heads to theaters in August!
Fathom Events, the came company who organized screenings of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s HD episodes in 2012 and 2013, the along with both the Deep Space Nine documentary and a 40th anniversary screening of Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 2019, will be letting fans get their first viewing of the new 4K remastered edition of The Voyage Home in theaters next month — in celebration of the film’s 35th anniversary.
Scheduled for two dates — Thursday, August 19 and Sunday, August 22 — the nationwide event will allow Star Trek fans to take in their first taste of the updated movie, remastered in Ultra HD from the original film negatives, ahead of the first Star Trek 4K film collection’s home-media release in early September.
In addition to the film itself, the Fathom Events screening will also include “The Three Picture Saga,” originally included on the 2009 Voyage Home Blu-ray disc, which discusses the Star Trek II – III – IV trilogy as whole.
