Well-known English audiobook publisher Big Finish Productions announced today their acquisition of the license for Star Trek: Prometheus, the German-based Trek novel trilogy first translated for English release in late 2017, with the first two audiobooks available for purchase now.

The three Prometheus novels make this the first venture into the Trek franchise by Big Finish, something fans of their multiple long-running Doctor Who audio series have been clamoring for for some time.

Big Finish is boldly going into the “Star Trek” universe! Out today are two audiobook readings of adventures featuring the USS Prometheus, released in association with Bastei Lubbe.

Originally published in Germany in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Star Trek,” the “Star Trek: Prometheus” trilogy was written by Bernd Perplies and Christian Humberg. Now translated into English, Big Finish are delighted to beam aboard the “Star Trek” universe and boldly take on the unabridged audiobooks of this epic series, featuring the adventures of the USS Prometheus under the command of Captain Richard Adams.

“Star Trek: Prometheus” is narrated by Alec Newman, who featured as Malik in “Star Trek: Enterprise.” Big Finish listeners will recognise him from numerous releases in our catalogue, including “Dark Shadows: Clothes of Sand,” “Dark Shadows: The Ghost Watcher,” “Dark Shadows: Kingdom of the Dead,” “Dark Shadows: Bloodlust,” “Doctor Who: Blue Forgotten Planet” and “Doctor Who: The Silent Scream.”

The first two books — Fire With Fire and The Root of All Rage — arrived for purchase today at £9.99 ($12.99 USD) each, with the final book in the trilogy — In the Heart of Chaos — set for release in December (when the book hits print). You can also order the three books together for £24.99 ($29.99 USD).

We’ve confirmed with Big Finish that their current Trek license only covers the English translations of the Prometheus trilogy, but that hasn’t stopped them from asking fans what other Star Trek material they’d like the company to cover — so there’s a possibility of expansion down the road — with some responses from longtime Trek authors popping up on social media.
