One more update out of Dubai today, as we have our closest look yet at the mysterious new Starfleet attire worn on the STAR TREK BEYOND sets over the last few days.
UPDATE: Here’s a look at what seems to be Chris Pine wearing the new outfit on set, as well as the logo featured on each shoulder patch (and the entrance to the Starfleet facility): Yorktown.

ORIGINAL POST:
Twitter user Phil McLoughlin spied a few passersby from the Federation base we’ve been watching and caught the new costumes in the clearest (and closest) photos yet.
Now we still can’t make out that tantalizing assignment patch featured on each actors’ shoulder, but it does appear to be the same logo seen on the Starfleet base’s entrance that we observed on Sunday.
These outfits seem to be an nod to the future of Starfleet uniforms, with the department colors on the upper back and shoulders, and what appears to be rank insignia on each jacket collar. Additionally, our friend in blue seems to have some sort of technology embedded in the left sleeve of his jacket.

As we know, director Justin Lin brought costume designer Sanja Hays on board to replace Michael Kaplan (who dressed the previous two films). These new jumpsuits, along with the new costumes seen in the August set footage out of Vancouver, definitely show that she’s thinking much differently than her predecessor.
Oh, and one other thing: it looks like the ladies will have their rank braids back in STAR TREK BEYOND, too.
What are your thoughts on these new outfits, now that we can see them up close? Sound off in the comments below!
