In a new interview with London’s The Telegraph, Zachary Quinto revealed that he — and by extension, Spock — will be spending most of his STAR TREK BEYOND screen time not with Chris Pine, but with Karl Urban’s Leonard McCoy.
He’s developed a… kind of camaraderie with his ‘Star Trek’ cast mates, which has been helpful as the franchise moves from director J.J. Abrams to Justin Lin (who’s done three ‘Fast & Furious’ movies).
He doesn’t share many scenes with his good friend Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk, instead spending most of his screen time with Karl Urban’s Bones.
“Those characters are so diametrically opposed that it’ll be nice to see them interacting,” he says.
Many fans have grumbled about Urban’s low-key role in the last two films; the biggest McCoy scene in Star Trek Into Darkness was more about Carol Marcus and her mysterious torpedo than about the Enterprise doctor.
Perhaps this is a sign that the good doctor will have a larger part to play in STAR TREK BEYOND? We’ll find out next July.
