MAY 19: Simon Pegg confirms STAR TREK BEYOND as the current working title of the film.

Have your salt shakers ready, as today TrekMovie is reporting that they have it “on good authority” that the next Star Trek film “may be” titled Star Trek Beyond, based on the title supposedly being registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for review.

Without any additional confirmation at this point, we’re treating this report as rumor — keep in mind that even TrekMovie is treading lightly, reminding readers that Bad Robot has a history of secrecy and misdirection.

Additionally, it seems unusual that Paramount would lock into a title without taking over StarTrekBeyond.com, which is currently host to a extensive fan proposal for a new Trek television series.

While Paramount does operate StarTrekMovie.com, currently focused on the Star Trek Compendium Blu-ray release from last year, they would certainly work to acquire the StarTrekBeyond.com URL for use as a redirect to the main movie site.

What are your thoughts on Star Trek Beyond as a potential title for the upcoming 50th Anniversary film? Good? Bad? Weird? Sound off in the comments below!
